Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely! Despite the name, sports massage isn't just for athletes. Think of it as therapeutic massage — focused on how your body actually feels and moves, rather than just helping you relax. Whether you're dealing with tension from sitting at a desk all day, recovering from a physically demanding job, or just want to move and feel better, sports massage can help. That said, if you're purely looking for a relaxing, spa-style experience, there are some wonderful options right here in Ridgewood that might be a better fit.

Not necessarily — and your comfort and care are always top priority. Deep tissue techniques are only used when appropriate and with your full consent. That said, working on a tense or injured area can sometimes cause brief, temporary discomfort — the kind that typically gives way to reduced inflammation and noticeably better mobility in the days that follow. Every session is guided by your feedback, so you're always in control.

Recovery Zone is a little different from your typical spa experience — and intentionally so. Sessions take place in a private room, but expect an interactive treatment rather than a silent, lights-out massage. I'll be checking in with you regularly about pressure, discomfort, and how your body is responding, and it's not unusual for the conversation to drift toward your training, your sport, or your injury history. Think of it less like a spa visit and more like a productive session with someone who genuinely cares about how you feel and move.

That said, you're always welcome to bring someone along — a friend, a partner, a parent — whoever makes you feel most comfortable. There's a chair in the room and they're welcome to stay for the whole session.

Sessions at Recovery Zone are built for people who want real results without spending half their day at a spa. A focused 50-minute session is typically enough time to target two problem areas or deliver a full-body reset, zeroing in on the muscles your daily life demands the most. If you feel like you need more time — or just want a more comprehensive session — the 110-minute option is there for you.

Targeted Relief sessions are performed fully clothed — just wear loose, comfortable athletic wear. Full Body Reset sessions involve direct skin contact, so clients disrobe to their comfort level and are professionally draped throughout. For each session, I use an unscented, water-based lotion by Soothing Touch — gentle and non-irritating. Targeted Relief uses compression, kneading, stretching, and cross-fiber friction — techniques that are most effective on dry skin through dry cloth. If you've ever had a Thai massage, you already have a sense of how powerful this style can be. Full Body Reset is closer to traditional deep tissue massage.

Recovery Zone Sports Massage is located inside FORM Functional Health and Wellness — and that's not a coincidence. While we are two separate businesses, the relationship is one of our biggest advantages for clients.

Think of it this way: sports massage is where recovery begins, and physical therapy is where serious rehabilitation happens. When your needs go beyond what massage therapy can address — whether that's post-surgery recovery, a more complex injury, or targeted orthopedic or pelvic floor therapy — the team at Form is under the same roof. Together, we cover the full spectrum of physical wellness, from routine maintenance and injury prevention all the way through clinical rehabilitation.

It means that no matter where you are in your recovery journey, you're in the right place.

It depends on which approach you choose. For Targeted Relief (focused work on problem areas), wear comfortable athletic clothing like shorts, a t-shirt, or leggings. For Full-Body Reset (traditional massage), undress to your comfort level—I'll provide proper draping throughout the session.

No, I don't bill insurance directly. However, all clients receive email receipts for deposits and final balance payments, which you can submit to your insurance company or use for FSA/HSA reimbursement.

Life happens — we get it. Here's how it works:

A 20% deposit is required at booking to reserve your session. If you need to reschedule, you can do so at any time before your appointment with no penalty. If you cancel or no-show without rescheduling at least 24 hours in advance, the deposit is forfeited.

If you've paid your balance early to take advantage of the 5% discount, your balance will be refunded at any point before your session. The deposit is still forfeited if you cancel within 24 hours without rescheduling.

Fill out the contact form on the homepage and I'll get back to you via your desired contact method as soon as I can to discuss your needs and get you scheduled.

Returning clients can use the password protected booking page on the website. After your first session, a link and password will be sent by SMS.

Yes, all new clients are required to complete a health intake form. I'll send you the link via text or email after we discuss your needs and determine if Recovery Zone is right for you.

All payments are processed securely through Stripe, so any major credit or debit card will work. Booking is done online and requires a 20% deposit to reserve your session. The remaining balance can be paid before your massage — and if you do, you'll save 5% — or settled in person at the end of your session.

If your insurance provider issued you a card for massage or wellness benefits, it may work depending on how the card is set up. Some insurance-issued cards are compatible with Stripe and some aren't, so it's worth checking with your provider beforehand.
